The Escape Artist

let abstract = "Following the success of our 2023 WebXR Game of the Year winner Above Par-adowski Mini-Golf, my team wanted our next title to break new ground in terms of visual, interaction and narrative design. Enter The Escape Artist, a WebXR escape room game where you play as the muse of an artist who has become lost in their own work.

I wore many hats on the project from concept to deploy. I was instrumental in developing our partnership with Wonderland Engine, which was critical to selecting genre and guiding the creative team to the right overall concept. During production, I managed the development team while directly contributing to design, dev and promotion. For example, I drove design and development of the first puzzle, the TV antenna and static, utilizing haptics, audio and a static shader to suggest to the user the correct antenna angles. I was also the audio designer for the game, recording and scripting over 500 original foley tracks into gameplay. I also drove the game’s launch process, from announcement, to key partnerships saving us tens of thousands of dollars in hosting costs, to our closed beta process involving feedback from 40+ testers, to our launch event and media planning, to post-launch award submissions and platform features. My relationship with Meta’s browser team meant we had great distribution in the form of a homepage feature on every Meta Quest in the world, resulting in over 200,000 players in the first four months after release. The game won Game of the Year and overall Experience of the Year at The WebXR Awards, and won Best Narrative Experience at the 2024 Webby Awards, beating a $100m flagship title by Meta in a popular vote."
